Did you know?

The CDC states that infection with one serotype does not protect against the others and sequential infections with a different serotype may place an individual at greater risk for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), a severe form of the disease. In the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas, all four serotypes were first reported in circulation in 1995, and the proportion of reported  DHF cases increased from 2.2% in 2000 to 23.4% in 2006.

Each lot of dengue antigen is inactivated chemically and this inactivation verified using a sensitive tissue culture based infectivity assay. This product contains no detectable infectious material.

Each antigen lot is tested for potency using ELISA, and compared to a reference antigen. This ensures the amount of viral protein in each batch is consistent. The total protein concentration reported includes both viral and non-viral proteins, with the ratio dependent on the purity of the antigen.
