Toxoplasma gondii Antigen
EL-18-07-000.2 (200 ug)
EL-18-07-001.0 (1 mg)

  • We extract toxoplasma tachyzoites from optimally infected cell culture and remove cellular protein by centrifugation and enriching the product for whole, intact toxoplasma and a high concentration of all toxoplasma membrane proteins.
  • Many types of IgG and IgM immunoassays

Toxoplasma gondii Antigen, IgM Grade
EL-18-08-000.1 (100 ug)
EL-18-08-001.0 (1 mg)

  • This antigen was designed specifically for IgM assays. The culture and preparation of tachyzoites is similar to EL-18-07, but the tachyzoites are disrupted and specifically purified to enrich for the membrane fraction.  The resulting preparation is highly specific for toxoplasma p30.
  • IgM immunoassays where a specific membrane fraction of toxoplasma is desired to reduce background

Fun Fact: Rats possess a normal fear of cats, and will run when they detect the odour of cat urine. Scientists have recently discovered that rats infested with Toxoplasma gondii in their brains lose this fear, and even seem curious about the smell of cats. These rats are easy prey and allow Toxo entry into the cat’s intestine, the only place where it is known to naturally reproduce. No one knows why Toxo affects rats in this way but speculation is the parasite causes fluctuations in the behaviour regulating hormone dopamine. Toxo has no effect on cats.

Each lot of Toxoplasma antigen inactivated using detergent treatment and  this inactivation verified using a sensitive tissue culture based infectivity assay.

Each antigen lot is tested for potency using ELISA, and compared to a reference antigen. This ensures the amount of viral protein in each batch is consistent. The total protein concentration reported includes both viral and non-viral proteins, with the ratio dependent on the purity of the antigen.
